Report Volante Car Challenge 2024

Note; the post below has been translated with Google Translate.

On April 13, we were guests at GINAF in Veenendaal, where both the start and the finish took place. The weather gods were very kind to us and it was a pleasure to travel across the northern Veluwe.
No fewer than 42 teams had registered, and this year we offered the choice of a tour class and a sports class. The biggest difference was in the complexity of the navigation, which was simpler in the tour class and more complex in the sports class. The survey of the last Car Challenge showed that this differentiation was desirable: both classes were 50% full, so this need was clearly met.

After a welcome word by Sjoerd and an explanation by Paul from Rally Support, the cars could start at 10:00 am, each time with a one-minute interval. A single car buzzing, another wheelspinning and noisy. So something for everyone.

The beautiful weather and fresh greenery made it wonderful to be on the road, but it also caused some traffic on the roads due to the many cyclists, motorcyclists and other road users. So there is every reason to take it easy and give everyone their place on the road.

After arrival, and thanks to the digital scoring, it was soon time for the awards ceremony for both classifications, the most beautiful car and the encouragement prize.

The Top 3 of the sports class was as follows:
1st prize: Robert and Chantal Dorrestein, with their VW Porsche 914
2nd prize: Reinier Regter and Rein van Soest, with their Porsche 911 C4S Cabrio
3rd prize: Rob Lammers and Martin Schanssema, with their BMW E36 Touring

The ranking for the Tour class is as follows:
1st prize: Perrin and Quinten van der Sluys, with their VW Polo
2nd prize: Marcel and Bart Zuidgeest, with their Ford 20M XL
3rd prize: Anthony Koot and Jaco Boon, with their Alfa Romeo GTV Spider

The prize for the “Car of the Day” went to Stan and Joop Hoenderboom, in their beautiful Mercedes Benz 280 SL from 1968.

Finally, the encouragement prize was awarded to Jens Valk with his Rover 75.

After the awards ceremony it was time for networking drinks, where the day could of course be reviewed and enthusiastic and strong stories could be exchanged. For the people who had registered for dinner, a delicious hot and cold buffet was ready, which could be eaten outside because the weather remained very pleasant.

We are grateful to the organization and the many volunteers for their enormous efforts to make this a success.

A video of the most memorable moments of the day will also be posted soon.

Enjoy the photos and please complete the survey form so that we know what went well and where there are still areas for improvement.

We look back on a very successful day!
