Report visit Broshuis

Note; the post below has been translated with Google Translate.

On Wednesday afternoon, October 8th, we visited Broshuis in Kampen.
This family business specializes in the construction of various types of specialized trailers, producing approximately 1,200 units annually, with a total of 550 employees. They claim to be the Dutch market leader.

We were warmly welcomed by Harold Vorsteveld, a graduate of Automotive Engineering who, during his career at Broshuis, rose to the position of Managing Director. We kicked off with lunch.

After lunch, with a total of around 15 participants, we embarked on an interactive presentation. Harold took us through the development of Broshuis, their product portfolio, and the various market segments they serve (and don’t serve, such as the market for traditional trailers built by many suppliers).
One segment they have now achieved success in is trailers for military transport. This is a rapidly growing market, partly due to increased investments in defense, extending not only throughout Europe but also to the US and Canada.

After this interesting introduction, we took an extensive tour of the various production halls, from the production of sheet steel parts using laser cutting, through the various welding operations, assembly of these parts, coating of the parts, and final assembly. It was remarkable to see how different products are made together, with the occasional special product thrown in.

In principle, Broshuis makes all its own parts, with the exception of a few standardized components from reputable suppliers. These include pumps, engines, hydraulic cylinders, axles, rims, and the like.

After the tour, there was an opportunity to ask questions, including about two army trailers on display outside.
The company visit concluded with a huge thank you to Harold for his comprehensive presentation, tour, and candid answers to our questions. We look back on a very successful company visit.

All participants are thanked for their participation and the €20 donation, which Volante has supplemented to €45 per participant to sponsor the Linda Foundation, the charity with which Broshuis has made agreements.
